Is Careprost the Same As Latisse?

Careprost and Latisse are both ophthalmic solutions that contain 0.03% bimatoprost. They are used to treat glaucoma and eyelash hypotrichosis.

They work by helping the fluid, called Aqueous humor, to flow properly out of the eyes. This helps to lower the pressure inside the eyes, which reduces the risk of glaucoma.

Bimatoprost?

Bimatoprost is a prostaglandin analog that lowers eye pressure. It reduces the risk of optic nerve damage and visual field loss in people with glaucoma.

This medication is usually used once a day, in the evening. It must be used consistently and carefully to achieve the best results. It may take longer to work if you have other medical conditions or use it with other medications.

Your doctor will tell you how much to use. Do not increase the dose or stop using it suddenly as this can cause severe side effects.

The usual dose of bimatoprost is 1 drop in each eye each night. It is important to follow your doctor’s dosing instructions carefully, as the dosage can vary depending on your body weight and other medical conditions.

Before using this medicine, tell your doctor if you have a history of eye inflammation (swelling) or a torn or missing lens. Also, tell your doctor if you wear contact lenses. They may need to be removed before you use this medication, and you must wait 15 minutes after each dose before putting them back in.

Eyelash Hypotrichosis

Many women struggle with the elusive task of having full and lush eyelashes. While many of the tips and tricks we see online for boosting lash growth don’t work, there are some that do.

One of the most popular is a treatment called Careprost, which has been used for decades to treat hypotrichosis, or insufficient hair growth, of the eyelashes. The drug works from the inside, causing the lashes to grow longer and thicker while also darkening their appearance.

The bimatoprost in Careprost (generic for Latisse) is a prostaglandin analog that works to stimulate the follicles to produce more hair. It also lowers the intraocular pressure (IOP) that can cause glaucoma.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a condition in which the pressure inside your eyes increases and damages the optic nerve. This damage can cause vision loss.

In the most common form of glaucoma, called open-angle glaucoma, eye pressure slowly increases over time due to problems with the way fluid drains from the eye. This fluid is normally produced and drained through a tissue in the eye called the trabecular meshwork.

However, when the trabecular meshwork becomes narrow or blocked (angle-closure glaucoma), eye pressure rises quickly and can cause immediate symptoms such as blurry vision, headache, nausea and vomiting, and seeing rainbow-colored rings or halos around lights.

There are many treatments available for glaucoma, including oral medications, eye drops and surgery that can either lower your eye pressure or prevent further damage. Talk to your doctor about these options and what would be best for you.

Latisse

Latisse is an eyelash growth treatment that uses bimatoprost, a drug found in Lumigan (an eye drop used to treat glaucoma). It works by promoting hair growth.

You apply it by dabbing the solution on the upper eyelid margin each night with sterile applicators supplied. The drug spreads to your lower lashes as you blink.

The sterile applicators should be discarded after each use. Re-using them can cause serious problems, such as an eye infection or allergic reaction.

You should also be careful when applying Latisse to your eyebrows. It can promote unwanted hair growth on other skin areas, so it’s important to only apply it to the upper eyelid margin.
